New Documentary Shows the Ups and Downs of the Five Families of NYC Christmas Trees

When you think of the holidays in New York, you think of ice skating at Rockefeller Center, “Home Alone 2″ and, of course, that gigantic Christmas tree.

Now, a new documentary is going to show us the nitty-gritty of selling Christmas trees in the Big Apple.

Turns out, the tree industry in NYC is held up by five feisty families whose annual job is choosing, hauling and selling Christmas trees…but it’s less “Silent Night” and more “Godfather” vibes.

In the upcoming documentary, “The Merchants of Joy”, we learn the tinsel-covered turf wars of the tree business, where sourcing the perfect pine is a high-stakes game. Battling rain, cancer, the hush-hush mafia whispers and “frenemies”, squaring off in the snowy trenches seems like a life-or-death matter.
