Hi Idiots.

2026 marks the 29th year of the Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show, an astounding feat for any show in any form of media. Since 1997, these two idiots have been doing goofs and gaffs.

The show has gone through many eras: some people say it's now in its best state, while others prefer what listeners have dubbed the "raw" era, aka the 2000s, when what could be done on a radio show was pretty different.

During our January Virtual Live at Night for our Annual Fancy Idiots, we revisited some old bits from way back in the day. These old segments included Pregnancy Police and the fan-favorite Flowershop Forum. It's always fun for me, as someone who only met all these guys in 2024, to hear what they were up to nearly 20 years ago.

After listening to these, I posed a question to Free Beer and Got Wings, "What bits do you wish you could bring back today?" Free Beer wishes he could bring back bits like the ones listed about that relied on people being called and not knowing they were on the radio. Today, though, most of the bits relied heavily on one thing that, once it hit mainstream, completely killed prank calling: caller ID.

Back in the day, everyone would pick up their phone no matter what, leading to plenty of opportunities to better segments. In that same vein, if they wanted to try doing ethically questionable pranks that used them, they would need to hire actors because the environment, people, and companies won't let it fly as they did back then.

VLAN nights like that are safer places to do stunts like this, but the world where FBHW did pranks has changed. But boy, do we all wish we could bring it back.
