There are teachers who go above and beyond in really big ways, and then there are ones who go above and beyond in daily small ways. Both are fantastic, but the latter is more likely to create impactful, lasting relationships with students.

That's what this fifth-grade teacher in Michigan, Dan Shutes, who makes a point to eat lunch right in the cafeteria with his students every day.

"Honestly, these cafeteria talks are some of the most fun moments of the day," he said. "It's awesome to get to know my students away from the classroom."
