New York Neighborhood’s Sidewalk Aquarium Finally Shut Down
Over the summer, a leaky fire hydrant in Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood got national attention as folks turned the resulting water-filled hole into a little sidewalk aquarium.
As time went on, people began adding all sorts of toys and decor to the makeshift fish pond and even put benches and a little library around it. The whole thing brought a lot of joy to the community until recently when the New York Fire Department came by and sealed the leak, drying up the hole, and killing the fish that called it home.
The people of Bed-Stuy are pretty disappointed (to say the least) and are continuing to try to figure out how to keep the aquarium going.
